Manna Market is a free meal and food distribution event that takes place at Fridley Covenant Church every Tuesday.  The doors open at 5 pm and guests register, then are welcomed in for a light dinner.

Jim calling ticket numbers

During registration ticket stubs are issued, and at 5:30 pm we begin drawing tickets in random order.  When a guest’s ticket is drawn, he/she is then invited to pick out free groceries which a volunteer carries through the line for them.

Available foods items typically include vegetables, fruits, breads, meats and some desserts. There are plenty of opportunities to share in this ministry – whether by attending as a guest or helping those guests by volunteering.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Manna Market food distribution at Fridley Covenant Church, you must have a valid ID (such as driver’s license) and live in Fridley, Columbia Heights, or Spring Lake Park.

For Guests

Manna market mealWhat to expect: Come at 5 pm for the free meal and registration. Enjoy conversation and games with other guests and volunteers from 5:30 – 7 pm while waiting for your ticket to be called. When your ticket is called, you’ll be guided through a market-style food distribution where you choose your own fresh produce, meats, desserts, and breads. See you there!

For Volunteers

Manna market

The easiest way to get involved in Manna Market, whether you are a church attendee or just want to get involved in a great local community service, is to show up at 5:00 pm (or whenever you can!) Tuesday and volunteer to be a “carrier”. Carriers guide guests through the produce selection line and carry their boxes for them, then help take the groceries outside. Once you’ve been a carrier, you can learn about other roles in the Manna Market process that might suit your talents and interests. There are options all day long, from food pickup to sorting to clean-up and more. Friend 2 Friend

Where does the food come from?

Much of the food is donated weekly by local grocers such as Cub Foods and Target through 2nd Harvest’s Food Rescue program.  Some is purchased with funds donated to Fridley Covenant Church.

There is also a clothing distribution truck that comes by during Manna Market once a month.
